Satori Celebrates First Thanksgiving on Mars!

Satori students are busy designing their own “Imagine Mars”  community with buildings, atmosphere, environ- ment, government, personal and home necessities and more. They are naming their new community today.   Tomorrow we will celebrate our first Thanksgiving on Mars with a feast for the new colonists.  Parents are welcome to join us for the feast, which will feature turkey and ham.  Lower school students will provide the vegetable dishes, Middle school students will provide desserts, and Upper school will do the drinks. HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO THE NEW SATORI COLONISTS OF MARS!

Remember our fall fundraiser, La Te Da, and order your gifts by December 2, 2008, so that we can get our orders by the holiday.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 25, 2008, there will be no Yoga for Kids class.  Following Thanksgiving, Yoga for Kids will switch permanently to Wednesdays beginning December 3.

On Wednesday, December 3, 2008, the Upper and Middle school students will take a field trip to the Texas City Prairie Preserve, which is a project of The Nature Conservancy and the Houston Zoo. Students will study coastal prairie, marine seining, and water quality.   Please have your child bring a bag lunch and wear appropriate clothing as specified in the field trip directions.  Look for the Parental Permission and Liability form for signature. If you can transport, contact your child’s teacher.  We have a tight schedule for the day’s directed learning activities so we will leave by 8:30 AM.

The next Parent Board meeting will be Thursday, December 4, at 6:00 PM.  Please come and hear about progress on the renovations and plan our spring fundraising activities including the BBQ.  Fundraising is critical this year so be sure to come to this meeting to give us your good ideas.  WE NEED YOU!

Satori Goes to NASA

When Satori students design their own “Imagine Mars”  communities, they will have many ideas based on our field trip to NASA, Johnson Space Center.  The Middle/Upper school students took the tram to visit  the astronaut Training and Simulation facility, Houston Mission Control Center, and the Rocket Center. They also viewed a variety of other exhibits about space science.  Meanwhile the Lower school students viewed a movie about space as well as visiting the science experiment center and the space play areas.  We had 100% attendance and terrific cadre of parent drivers.  Many thanks to the following families: Davison, Howrey, Henderson/Soord, Johnson, Hatherill, Minton’s and the faculty.

Remember our fall fund raiser, La Te Da, and order your gifts by December 2, 2008, so that we can get the order by the holiday.

Next Tuesday, November 25, 2008, there will be no Yoga for Kids class.  Following Thanksgiving, Yoga for Kids will switch permanently to Wednesdays beginning December 3.  Thanks Debra Conrad for this wonderful addition to our school.
