Satori Receives Two Grants

We are pleased to announce that the Moody Foundation has completed their grant to Satori in the amount of $7,000 for assistance in operations in 2007-8.  Also we have just received word that the Kempner Foundation has approved an emergency grant to Satori in the amount of $10,000 for hurricane recovery.  We are so thankful for our many supporters in this time of need.

We welcome Ben Thompson back to the Upper School fifth grade.  Also welcome to our two new Lower students Elizabeth Dowling from Australia to first grade and Colin Beeton to kindergarten.

Our Evergreen Fundraiser is coming to an end.  Tomorrow, November 4, your orders should be completed and turned in to the office.  Remember to make checks out to “Satori School.”  The evergreens make great gifts and can be sent directly to the recipient’s address.  Thanks to Betsy Hatherill for coordinating this project.

Parent volunteer activities available this month and next month include:  1)  Friday lunch duty for days available on the parent calendar at the front bulletin board, 2) hauling away a trash can full of aluminum cans for recycling, and 3) hauling away stacks of newspapers from the art room and hallway for recycling.
The hot lunch menu is printed on the back of this newsletter for your convenience.

Remember, your November tuition is now due.  Please deposit checks in the tuition box by the front desk.
Our Internet is again back to normal so you may contact us at satori@satorischool.net regarding school business. The phone is also available on 409-763-7022.  Please share any new numbers with your teacher.

Welcome Back to School!

We are so proud to be able to re-open Satori so soon after IKE.  Our first floor was badly damaged and the debris has been cleaned away.  Richard Swoord has done a terrific job of managing the entire process and getting workers and contractors to do what was needed.  We have electric, water, AC, sewer, fire alarm, security, and internet.  Thankfully we also have teachers with students in classes who are happily here learning.  Our interior looks and feels like home.

We do not yet have fountain drinking water or hot water.  The Mintons have given us a water cooler with large jugs of water from the mainland.  It is placed in the corner of the lunchroom for students to refill their water bottles. We also have extra bottled water. The gas line has to be checked and approved by the city before it will be turned on by Texas Gas for the water heater.  Meanwhile we are using disinfectant, soap and hand sanitizer liberally!

Our Satori new plywood entrance and exit halls need painting at the first floor level.  Also the school yard is in need of new mulch since IKE floated most of it away.  We are searching for mulch to be delivered from the mainland for the playground.  Please contact us if you can help.

Phone service is not yet available at school so please use the cell number 409-939-9638 or on the internet billie_rinaldi@satorischool.net to contact me regarding school business.  If you have a new number that you are using during this emergency share it with your teacher.

Please pass the word that we do have space available for new students.  There is a poster by the front door of the school that you can put in your vehicle window.  The newspapers have our announcement and it has generated some inquiry.  We are requesting TV coverage as well.  Everyone, please talk up Satori.  We will be flexible and consider individual circumstances.
