Thursday, December 18, at 11:00 a.m. our choir, The Satori Sound led by music teacher, David George, will be performing at the Frost Bank.  Please join us and invite your friends to stop by to hear our fabulous voices bringing us Winter music.

Our supporters have continued to respond to the Satori Annual Giving campaign.  If you have not done so, do call the persons you “adopted”  from the mailing list just to see if they received their letter, to encourage them to give a gift at this time of need, and to remind them that their gift is tax deductible.

The Satori BBQ committee met last week to begin planning for our annual fundraiser.  We decided on the theme, “ Satori is Going Green for the Future of Galveston!”  The committee will make a full report at our January Board meeting on January 8, 2009.  Be sure to attend to hear the exciting plans.

The Harris and Eliza Kempner Fund has again responded to  Satori with a grant for scholarships for the coming year in the amount of $6,000.   This is in addition to the $10,000 grant already received from the Fund for emergency operating expenses following Hurricane Ike.  Thank You, Kempner Fund!

Friday noon, December 19, the Upper School students will be privileged to attend a unique “Lunch and Learn”  event at NASA with Ms. Corley.  The topic to be presented by the Astrodynamics Technical Committee of the American Institute of Aeronautics will be “Apollo 8: The 40th Anniversary”.  There will be an interactive panel discussion with Apollo engineers from that era.

This Friday at 2:00 p.m. our students will be exchanging holiday gifts of a puzzle theme as they each find out who their Secret Santa is.  Please remember to have your child bring their gift for the exchange.  Following the exchange in the lunchroom, all will return to classrooms for their holiday parties.

Check your La Te Da fundraising items right away.  If you received items you did not order, return them tomorrow to Ms. Roy.  We need to know if the delivery was short as we are missing a box from one order.

Thursday or Friday Catherine Carlton, of First Choice Power will be visiting Satori School, to take a look at the project in action for which Ms. Corley received the First Choice Innovative Classroom Grant. Some pictures will be taken for their media releases and we need to have releases signed by each child’s parent in case their child appears in any of the pictures. Please sign and return as soon as possible.

Yoga for Kids is now being offered on Wednesdays at 3:30 after school beginning December 3.

Wednesday, December 3, 2008, the Upper and Middle school students will take a field trip to the Texas City Prairie Preserve, which is a project of the Nature Conservancy and the Houston Zoo. Students will study coastal prairie, marine seining, and water quality.   Please have your child bring a bag lunch and wear appropriate clothing as specified in the field trip directions.  Look for the Parental Permission and Liability form for signature. If you can transport, contact your child’s teacher.  We will leave by 8:30 AM.

Come to the next Parent Board meeting on Thursday, December 4, at 6:00 PM.  Get an update about progress on the renovations and plan our spring fundraising activities including the BBQ.  Fundraising is critical this year so come to this meeting to give us your good ideas.  Annual Giving letters have been sent and now we will follow up with phone calls. WE NEED YOU!

On Saturday, December 6, 2008, it has been proposed that Satori host a Bake Sale Fundraiser in front of our building from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM.  We also will offer crafts, remaining greenery and La Te Da products at our table.  Since it is Dickens weekend we would anticipate a rapid sell out of items. A Dickens booth was too costly so this is our alternative proposal.  Please sign up on the parent volunteer board if you can help bake, help sell at our table, or do both.
