Satori News for March 27, 2009

BBQ COMMITTEE
The BBQ committee  met on Tuesday, March 24, to update work done and work to be done.  Tickets are distributed to families for sale.  Auction items are arriving and are being catalogued. The BBQ is on the Galveston.com website events calendar.  We have secured a live band for the event.   Careene Plummer is chairing our committee and working with sub-committees to assist with planning. The next meeting of the committee will be on Tuesday, March 31, at 5:30 pm.  We will meet each Tuesday in April to be sure that we are ready for the BBQ.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
Nine Francois, a nationally known photographer, has begun a Satori Photography workshop for students from Satori, LA Morgan, and Rosenberg Schools.  The twenty students, including all Satori Middle and Upper School students and five students from each of the GISD schools,  began their adventure today.  They are ready to tell their stories of “After IKE”  in photographic images and writing.  Using a project camera each student will have a 10 day period to document their own view of “After IKE”.  A photo book will be published featuring work of all twenty students at the completion of the project.  The next workshop will take place on Friday, April 17, 2009.  Lower School students participated in this first workshop and learned about taking pictures.  We are most thankful to Susan and Robert Lynch, the Kempner Foundation, and the Galveston Art Center for providing funding for this project.

PUSS IN BOOTS
Next Wednesday, Satori students will attend the production of Puss in Boots at the Grand.  Lower School will need drivers for this 10:00 production.  Please see Ms. Roy.

SCIENCE FAIR
Next Friday morning will be the Satori Science Fair.  Be sure your middle and upper school student is ready with his/her project.  We still have project boards available for sale.

RENOVATION
Our downstairs renovation for the Grants and Housing area will be complete before April 1, 2009!!!!!  We are down to finishing touches.
