Students from L.A. Morgan, Rosenberg and Satori elementary schools will have a book signing of “After Ike: 20 Stories from 20 Galveston Kids,” a book they collaboratively worked on with Stephanie Thomas and Nine François after Hurricane Ike from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at MOD Coffeehouse, 2126 Postoffice St., in Galveston. Everyone’s invited to attend.
Nine Francois, a nationally known photographer, conducted a Satori Photography workshop for students from Satori, LA Morgan, and Rosenberg Schools. The twenty students, including all Satori Middle and Upper School students and five students from each of the GISD schools, tell their stories of “After IKE” in photographic images and writing. Using a project camera each student had a 10 day period to document their own view of “After IKE”.
UPDATE: See pre-event coverage from Fox 26 Houston and ABC 13 Eyewitness News television.
We are most thankful to Susan and Robert Lynch, the Kempner Foundation, and the Galveston Art Center for providing funding for this project.

The Satori Fun Summer Camp begins on June 1, 2009, and runs through August 21, 2009. The hours for planned activities are 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Supervision is provided from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm for the convenience of working parents who need the extended hours.
We will go swimming at the nearby Knights of Columbus pool twice a week, on Wednesday and Friday mornings and we will have art classes twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons taught by Sara Shallenberger. Students will take scheduled walks together to the library and to the pool.
Specific themes are planned for each week and parents will receive a weekly schedule outlining the daily schedules, theme, walks, and field trips. Field trips are planned for each month and will include a trip to Seacamp. Daily activities will center around play indoors and outdoors, imagination, creativity, idea development, and light academic review led off by the morning teacher, Angelica Jimenez. For more information you may contact the Summer Camp Director, Janet Roy, who is also the afternoon teacher for the camp. The school phone is 409-763-7022.
