Satori News: Gardening Program, Seniors Project, Child Care

February 5, 2009 Comments Off

This week Satori students begin a program during our integrated time from 1:30-3:30 pm that will establish cylinder gardening at our school.  The children will be involved in the  4-H curriculum that will certify them as Level I,  Junior Master Gardeners.  This program can be a continuing gardening project that extends beyond the cylinders and supports our “Satori Going Green for Galveston” theme.

During this month and next month, Satori students will be engaged with our senior citizens from Edgewater in extension of our gardening project. On Thursday, February 19, 2009, our students will travel to Edgewater Center for their first visit with the “Seniors”. We will need drivers to be here at 1:30 pm to take the children to the center and we will return by 3:15. On March 12, the “Seniors” will visit us here at Satori for the culmination of the program.

This Thursday, child care will be provided during the Parent Board meeting. The fee per child for the care is $3.00 for the entire meeting which is to be paid to the care provider by the parents on that evening. Please be sure to pay for the child care if you bring your child so that we can continue to engage someone to provide the service for you.

Dr. Nancy Hodges, a consultant in gifted and talented education, will be meeting with our teachers on Friday, February 6, 2009, to work with them on the design of the next integrated unit.

On Tuesday, February 10, tune in to see an Electronic Field Trip developed by Satori teachers and featuring a former Satori student. The Buffalo Soldiers Electronic Field Trip at 9:00 am and 12:00 pm.
