MONDAY MEMO: October 4, 2010

October 5, 2010

From the Director’s Desk:

Goodness, it is so quiet here without your children—I miss their hugs and greetings!  As you come on campus today for conferences, please take a look around our campus.  A great big Satori Shout-out to Reba, James, and John Cleary—they were here from 9:30 a.m. until around 5 p.m. “beautifying” our playground and parking lot.  They even power washed the dumpster fence and replaced some boards!  I am so grateful for their commitment to our school.

Calendar of Events:

10/1—Tuition due; payment late after the 10th of the month

10/7—Board Meeting, 5:30, at Moody Mansion

10/8—Full day of school (calendar change)

Lower School News:

Students will be studying the letter E; be prepared for a lot of “elephantine” learning!

Upper School News:

Students attended an electronic field trip last week; several Satori student questions submitted previously were used on “Pollenator Live” through Parks and Recreations’ focus on gardening and bees.

Art:

The submission for the Jane Long Festival and Children’s Art Contest are in—feel confident that we have winners in our midst!  Art is being sent home with the students on a regular basis—hope it is reaching you!  There are some outstanding works of art being created at Satori this year by your children, with much more to come!

PE:

Students continue to work on balances through games that deal with balance.

Spanish:

Students are working on the Spanish words for the individual colors and the days of the week.  Additionally, one of our students (Elizabeth!) got to use her Spanish last week when the man who delivers our paper towels came in with a cut.  While it was being cleaned up, Elizabeth greeted him in Spanish, saying “hello, how are you?”  He answered her and they continued chatting in Spanish, Elizabeth confident all the while.  Our little “ninos” are really learning!

What I Overheard Today:

“Our bodies are works of art; see how beautiful Mother Nature made us?!?”  Well, She surely didn’t skimp on the brain department either!
