From the Director’s Desk:
Surely feels like a Monday! Hope your long weekend was wonderful and restful, though we are so glad to have your little ones back this morning. Teachers have completed their goals as requested and they are on file in the director’s office. Additionally, they are completing an overview for their grade level/subject that will be published in a handbook available before new family orientation in November. The handbook will contain the overviews as well as pertinent information such as hours, dress code, volunteer opportunities, tuition information/late fees, etc.
I thought I’d use this opportunity to share my goals with you as well. I will say, they tend to morph into different shapes each day, but day-to-day operational goals are like that. However, my “vision” for this school year looks like this:
- Provide support for teachers in all aspects of their instructional day.
- Obtain grants/financial support for purchase of a wireless cart with laptop/notebooks that will provide more opportunity for students to practice keyboarding/technology skills—a necessity for 21st century learners!
- Complete score analysis of Iowa standardized testing scores over the past five years to track our student growth; this analysis will provide teachers with statistical data to improve instruction as well as confirm that students are learning!
- Visit classrooms often during optimum teaching times.
- Focus on increasing enrollment to ensure that Satori Elementary School has at least another 30 years of “small classes, big ideas!”
Lower School
The focus this week for the letter B is comparing bats to birds—brilliant!
Middle School
Second spelling test is on Friday; and “get well” wishes go out to Drew B. who had his tonsils removed last week. We miss you, Drew!
Upper School
Student artwork will be posted on the Energy Conservation Club page for the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Ms. Corley’s application was accepted for her class to go on a field trip at Atwater Prairie Reserve on November 3.
Music
Students have been listening for and beating the steady beat in songs. They are now beginning to listen for the “silences” (rests) in the songs. Students are also practicing the songs sung at morning assembly.
Art
Have you seen our fabulous Greco-Roman ruins?!?
What I Overheard Today
In the midst of our noontime thunderstorm, second graders were excitedly hopeful that if they were struck by lightning, they would have awesome superpowers! If only…!
