Satori Goes to NASA

When Satori students design their own “Imagine Mars”  communities, they will have many ideas based on our field trip to NASA, Johnson Space Center.  The Middle/Upper school students took the tram to visit  the astronaut Training and Simulation facility, Houston Mission Control Center, and the Rocket Center. They also viewed a variety of other exhibits about space science.  Meanwhile the Lower school students viewed a movie about space as well as visiting the science experiment center and the space play areas.  We had 100% attendance and terrific cadre of parent drivers.  Many thanks to the following families: Davison, Howrey, Henderson/Soord, Johnson, Hatherill, Minton’s and the faculty.

Remember our fall fund raiser, La Te Da, and order your gifts by December 2, 2008, so that we can get the order by the holiday.

Next Tuesday, November 25, 2008, there will be no Yoga for Kids class.  Following Thanksgiving, Yoga for Kids will switch permanently to Wednesdays beginning December 3.  Thanks Debra Conrad for this wonderful addition to our school.

Satori Study of Communities

Everyone is excited about our integrated Social Studies Unit on Communities. Each afternoon from 2:00-3:00 the students re-group to experience lessons about the features and origins of communities from ancient times to the present. The unit will culminate with students designing their own “Imagine Mars” communities.

Friday, November 14, 2008, will be our school wide field trip to NASA. All students are invited and should bring a sack lunch, a drink, and wear a Satori tee shirt. Following the opening pledges, we will prepare to leave for the day. Of course we need parents to drive and help with the children. Please let your child’s teacher know if you can assist and accompany us on this terrific field trip. We will return by 3:00 PM.

Thanks to the Howreys for painting our entrance and to Mr. Willis for hauling away our cans and paper for recycling. Also thanks to the Minton’s and Willis’s for assisting with the Halloween table at UTMB on October 31st.

Next Monday, November 17, 2008, will be our first Parent Conference day with Report Cards. Remember that teachers will be conferencing with parents and there will be no school. You should sign up for your conference on the posted schedules at the front office. If you need a different time, please talk with your teacher.

If you have questions about the Original Art Works project, please contact Stephanie Thomas the Art Teacher. Price lists were included in the packet that was sent home on Friday. Billie Rinaldi, Director
