Satori Sound brightens the holiday, NASA Lunch-and-Learn coming up!

Thursday, December 18, at 11:00 a.m. our choir, The Satori Sound led by music teacher, David George, will be performing at the Frost Bank.  Please join us and invite your friends to stop by to hear our fabulous voices bringing us Winter music.

Our supporters have continued to respond to the Satori Annual Giving campaign.  If you have not done so, do call the persons you “adopted”  from the mailing list just to see if they received their letter, to encourage them to give a gift at this time of need, and to remind them that their gift is tax deductible.

The Satori BBQ committee met last week to begin planning for our annual fundraiser.  We decided on the theme, “ Satori is Going Green for the Future of Galveston!”  The committee will make a full report at our January Board meeting on January 8, 2009.  Be sure to attend to hear the exciting plans.

The Harris and Eliza Kempner Fund has again responded to  Satori with a grant for scholarships for the coming year in the amount of $6,000.   This is in addition to the $10,000 grant already received from the Fund for emergency operating expenses following Hurricane Ike.  Thank You, Kempner Fund!

Friday noon, December 19, the Upper School students will be privileged to attend a unique “Lunch and Learn”  event at NASA with Ms. Corley.  The topic to be presented by the Astrodynamics Technical Committee of the American Institute of Aeronautics will be “Apollo 8: The 40th Anniversary”.  There will be an interactive panel discussion with Apollo engineers from that era.

This Friday at 2:00 p.m. our students will be exchanging holiday gifts of a puzzle theme as they each find out who their Secret Santa is.  Please remember to have your child bring their gift for the exchange.  Following the exchange in the lunchroom, all will return to classrooms for their holiday parties.

Check your La Te Da fundraising items right away.  If you received items you did not order, return them tomorrow to Ms. Roy.  We need to know if the delivery was short as we are missing a box from one order.

Satori bake sale looked terrific

Thanks to all of the parents who baked, set up, contributed crafts and costumes and to those who stayed to help sell at the Holiday Sale Fundraiser on Saturday, December 6, 2008.  The weather was great and the baked goods were yummy.  The fundraiser was not heavily attended and we have learned that we need to do advance advertising.  Considering the last minute nature of our event, it looked terrific.  We did gain visibility and just a little money.  Parents of David, Ben, Mary Beth, Austin, Natalie, Annie, and Robin all pitched in to help along with friend Kevin and Ms. Rinaldi.  Lillie and Zella’s mom did the crafts.  We had cookies, kolaches, brownies, cupcakes, muffins, and more!

The Satori Annual Giving campaign  has proven to be most successful so far.  We wish to remind you to call the persons you “adopted”  from the mailing list just to see if they received their letter, to encourage them to give a gift at this time of need, and to remind them that their gift is tax deductible.

In order to get our planning started for our major fundraiser, the Satori BBQ,  the committee will meet on Wednesday, December 10 at 4:15 PM following the yoga class.  Do remember that every parent is expected to participate in planning and conducting this activity.  Please come to share your great ideas on how to conduct the BBQ this year. If you are not able to come out on Wednesday, be sure that your name is on one or more sub-committees for the BBQ and pass on your ideas about how to improve this event under our present circumstances.

The Pine Woods Screening Services will once again be doing our required vision, hearing and health screenings using guidelines mandated by the Dept. of State Health Services and the Texas State Senate & House Bills. We are scheduled for January 21 and are sending you details about the fees per screening and the permission slips. Check your child’s folder this week for the parent letters and who should be screened.

This is the week that students will be drawing names for our Holiday gift giving. Look for more information later this week.
